Almost a week late but better late than never!
We spent Memorial weekend at Lake Eufaula with the family. New this year we had Jackie and his two kids Jacklynn and my buddy Turner bear. We also had Rhonda and Jeremy and their family there. They were nice to bring their jetski and let us use it. All the kids had a blast on it especially DesireĆ©. Jackie piloted them around the lake doing tricks and even flipped it over a few times! Christian and I have never ridden one so maybe next time we’ll get to.
The weather wasn’t as hot as previous years…in fact it was rather nice. There were a few times we saw lightning in the far distance. I can’t call to mind if it was Saturday or Sunday night but we got a torrential downpour that lasted about 10 to 15 minutes. Fortuitously I was in the tent looking for something and was quickly able to zip up the flaps when it started coming down. One thing I forgot to do was stake down the rain guard so the wind almost took it off! So off in the rain we went to stake it down. Luckily ours and Jackie’s tent stayed dry (purchased at Sam’s). John and his family had to leave because the rain kept coming in and ultimately soaked their floor and a lot of things inside. Christian and Suzi had to bunk with us because their tent took on some water also. I hope I didn’t keep them awake “sawing logs” at night.
That night after the rain had stopped all the remaining bodies huddled together by the fire and made s’mores and had silly campfire talk. Our tent became the party tent for a little while.
Saturday’s annual fish fry was great! There was lots of food to pick from. My wifey made a scrumptious corn dish. (me loves the corn!) Someone made a cole slaw that was yummy. We had hush puppies, stuffed peppers, beans, salad, corn on the cob, hot dogs….
All in all it was a great time. Thank you to Papa Joe and Grandma Janice for inviting us. Maybe we’ll do it again when my family comes to visit in July…
