Day out with the girls (Jessi & Desi)

This past weekend I had the two younger girls with me. Diana was off at a Mother:Daughter retreat vacation getaway with her family. I figured it would just be nice to get out and do something with Jessica and DesireƩ.

First we went to see the Disney Christmas Carol Train Tour that stopped here in the city. It was on a tour of the United States beginning in California and ending in New York to promote the movie coming out in November. Overall it was very neat. The atmosphere was very festive and Christmas-y. The numerous snow making stations helped to sell it. We had lots of fun learning about how the 3d animated characters were made. I think the most fun part for the girls was the face morphing station where a picture of your face was taken and digitally morphed into some of the various characters of the movie. At the end of the tour we got to see a special preview of the movie in a huge inflatable theater! The new Dolby 3D technology is pretty amazing also! I never thought the 3D fad would come back but now I’m glad it did because I think it adds depth to the movies.

After the tour we let our feet rest and went to see the movie SHORTS which was enjoyable. It was totally a kids movie probably written by kids also.

Jessi and Desi went around saying “Say hello to my little friends…” They were funny.

What’s a beautiful day without ice cream? We hit up Braum’s next to cool down and replenish our sugar stores because we had more things to do that day.

We visited the Oklahoma Railway Museum that day but we were too late to buy tickets for a ride. We still were able to walk around and take pictures of the old trains which was fun in itself. Not too far from there was the 45th Infantry Museum. It was neat looking at all the tanks and vehicles.

We then made a quick stop at Ultimate Electronics to peruse the big screen aisles and sit in their theater room.

I also just had to make a stop at the R/C race track which was nearby. They were running offroad today. My brother and I used to race our radio controlled cars when I lived in California so it brought back lots of memories. I don’t believe there is any way to compete against them with the setup I have. They now race cars designed for ‘on-road’ on the dirt ovals. They create tons of traction so they can turn on a dime pretty easily.

Back in 1987 when I was into R/C racing it was almost entirely electric motors. Now nitro powered cars have risen in popularity but I’m still partial to good ol’ electric motors. Now if I could just get my dad to send me my car and all the equipment…

Our last stop of the evening was at the Winchester Drive In. Neither Jessica or DesireƩ had ever been to a drive in before so I hoped they would enjoy it.

It’s like a big picnic party because almost everyone brings their lawn chairs or loads up a mattress onto a pickup truck. Desi said it was like in the movie Grease when they were at the drive in. I hope to take my entire family next time before it closes.
